WELCOME, GUESTS, TO ADVENT - We are pleased that you have chosen to worship with us in this Season of Pentecost. Information about Advent’s ministries is available on the Welcome Cart near the east entrance; or you may visit www.adventolathe.org. If you are interested in joining our community of faith, please contact the church office. INTERESTED IN MEMBERSHIP AT ADVENT? The next New Member Orientation and Luncheon is scheduled for Sunday, August 22 at 11:15 a.m. You may sign up on the kiosk in the narthex to be included in this group. Reservations are requested so that we may adequately prepare childcare and luncheon needs. Come join us! WELCOME PASTOR CYNTHIA SCHNAATH as our worship leader today. Pastor Cynthia serves as Bishop’s Associate in our Central States Synod and is a member of Advent. PASTOR SUSAN AND PASTOR ROGER are on vacation. CONGRATULATIONS, PASTOR BRENDA CROSSFIELD - Advent Member Brenda Crossfield’s Ordination into the Ministry of Word and Sacrament was last Saturday here at Advent. Many thanks to all who participated and made this day such a wonderful celebration - worship participants, musicians, hospitality workers, servers and staff. She has been called to serve at Faith Lutheran in Prairie Village and is being installed today in their morning worship. GONE NEXT WEEKEND? Join us for THURSDAY WORSHIP each Thursday at 7 p.m. the Advent community gathers for an informal service of Holy Communion. The readings and the sermon are the same as for the upcoming Sunday, so if you know you will be out of town, or have previous Sunday morning obligations, plan to attend worship at Advent on Thursdays at 7 p.m. Casual attire is appropriate. JUST DON’T FORGET TO WORSHIP! Attending a different church in a vacation destination can be a wonderfully refreshing learning experience for you and your family. Make an effort to find a church and worship while you are on vacation. You’ll be glad you did. BACK PACK INGATHERING - It’s that time of year again to go shopping for school supplies. Advent will be filling backpacks for area school children who are not able to afford the school supplies they need. The school bus is set up in the narthex with orange paper backpacks. The lists on the backpacks are by grade level, with an optional classroom list on the back. The backpacks need to be returned by August 15th. Please make sure to include the orange paper backpack in your backpack or donation to easily identify which grade you’ve collected for. Any school supplies are welcome. Thank you so much for your help by providing these children with school supplies. If you have any questions about this ingathering please contact the church office, 681-2074. MONDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY - Join us at 7 p.m. in the library. The reading is Luke 12:13-21 for the 10th Sunday after Pentecost. Bring your Bible and join the conversation. THURSDAY BIBLE CLASS will take a break for a few weeks and return on August 12 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. We’ll continue with the history and geography of the Bible, focusing on Paul’s Journeys and the latter half of the first century. Bring a friend! PRAYER FIRST invites you to join them. Prayer First meets each Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. If you have any questions please call Andrea Hodges at 681-4907 or Hillary White at 780-4408. The Evening Prayer First gatherings are on hiatus until this fall. ANTENEH’S “LOVE FUND”/INTERN SCHOLARSHIP -STILL TAKING CONTRIBUTIONS - We have all been touched by Vicar Anteneh’s ministry and we invite you to make a contribution to his “love fund” which will be sent directly to Gettysburg Seminary for his last year’s tuition, books and housing expenses. Make your donation check payable to Advent (mark “Anteneh” on the memo line.) Thank you. SUMMERTIME IS OLD-HYMN TIME AT ADVENT - There’s no better time to get to sing everybody’s favorite old-time hymns than during the hot days of July and August. If you’ve got a special hymn that you’d like to have the congregation sing on an upcoming Sunday, let our Music Director, Tom Williams know and we’ll add it to the list. Don’t limit your choices to the ELW Worship Hymnal. If your hymn isn’t in any of our most frequent used hymnals let him know the titles and he’ll dig it out of his extensive hymn collection. Let us know your favorite. You can drop us a note in the offering, call the church office (913-681-2074), or email Tom at twilliams@adventolathe.org. ETHIOPIAN BIBLES FOR CHILDREN FUND DRIVE - Because of Advent’s generosity, we have collected enough to reach our goal of 500 Bibles! Thank you to those who opened your hearts and wallets to support this effort. We should be very proud that we are going to be able to provide a Bible for every child in the Sunday School of Vicar Anteneh’s home congregation of Addis Ababa Mekane Yesus Church. You may continue to donate so that even more children will have their own copy of the Word of God in their language. REGISTRATION FOR KIDS AND VOLUNTEERS for Sunday School beginning next fall is officially open! Registration is available in the narthex and on the Advent website www.adventolathe.org. MORE AMAZING EVENTS are in the planning stages for all areas of our Youth Ministry. Please make sure to keep checking the bulletin and the Advent web page to find out more as these plans are finalized. You wouldn’t want to miss anything! SUMMER TIME IS ALWAYS DIFFICULT for those who are responsible for the financial activity at Advent. PLEASE keep current on your pledge, and make sure that you remember Advent as you begin your summer travel activities.
