Bulletin Annoucements for Sunday, March 7th, 2010

WELCOME, GUESTS, TO ADVENT - We are pleased that you have chosen to worship with us today.  Information about Advent’s ministries is available on the Welcome Cart near the east entrance; or visit www.adventolathe.org.  If you are interested in joining our community of faith, please speak with Pastor Susan.  The next new member orientation is late April 18.

THIS MORNING WE COMMISSION THE PARTICIPANTS in our two mission trips that will be traveling during Spring Break week.  One group will return to Agua Prieta, Mexico to do adobe homebuilding, while the other group continues with the recovery efforts in New Orleans.  The list of “mission trippers” is elsewhere in the bulletin, but we encourage you to hold them in prayers during their trip and as they use this last week in preparation for departing Friday night and Saturday morning.

ADULT FORUM - Join us today at 9:30a.m. in Room 107.  Today, in Part One of our Health and Spiritual Wellness series we’ll look at nutritional and mental wellness.  Lynn Nelson, our resident nutrition expert, and Susan Boxberger, our resident mental health, expert will share some of their tips and definitions of wellness.  We’ll also open it up for class discussion so bring your questions!

NOONTIME PRAYERS are being offered every weekday during Lent.  If you would like to join us in the sanctuary for a brief time of silence, reflection and prayer, please be here by noon.  If you are unable to be with us at church, take a moment to offer your prayers at noon each day.

THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT IN ONE NIGHT - If you are intimidated because you don’t know enough about the Bible, this is the class for you.  As adults, you may bring your Bible and “walk through the New Testament” with Pastor Susan, as she teaches this final class to the 3rd graders and their parents.  (You will be “auditing” the Faith Stepping Stone #4 First Bible class from 6:30 to 8 p.m.) All are welcome to join in this easy, fun Bible orientation, geared to kids, but more informative than you can imagine! Bring your Bible, a pencil, and join us.

MIDWEEK LENTEN VESPERS continue this week with Soup Supper provided by the Confirmation groups at 6 p.m. and Holden Evening Prayer at 7 p.m.

PRESIDING BISHOP MARK HANSON leads a Town Hall meeting today at 4 p.m. at www.elca.org.  You may email your questions beforehand, then give a listen.

MONDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY - Join us at 7 p.m. in the library. The reading is Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32, for the Fourth Sunday in Lent. Bring your Bible and join the conversation.

JOIN WEAVERS OF THE WORD at Starbucks at 151st and Metcalf. The first Sunday of the month we have book discussion and the third Sunday of each month we have Bible study. For a complete list of books we are discussing, contact Julie Stuckey at 913-782-0120.

18th ANNUAL PALM SUNDAY SEDER SUPPER - Sunday, March 28 at 6:00 p.m.

Please plan to join us for this ancient freedom supper, which is the meal that Jesus was participating in “on the night in which he was betrayed.”  From this supper, we learn the roots of Holy Communion as practiced by Christians the world over.  Come experience a Seder.  Sign up on the kiosk today.  Willing to host?  See Pastor Susan.

PRAYER IN THE NARTHEX - For Lent, we created a “prayer chapel” in the Narthex.  The focus for these prayers is active praying: each prayer box has a different guided prayer for you to experiment with.  You are welcome to explore the stations any time you are at church.

DEVOTION OPPORTUNITIES FOR LENT - the Lenten season is a time to explore our relationship with Christ.    This year we are please to offer several devotional opportunities.  We have our own series of electronic devotions that will be posted on our website and you can sign up to subscribe to an email delivery.  We also have number 2 in the Book of Faith series: Marks of the Christian: a study of Romans 12.   We also have several devotionals available for purchase in the office.

PRAYER FIRST has two different opportunities for you to join us.  Prayer First meets each Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.  If you’d rather join us for the evening session we gather on the first and third Thursday evenings of each month at 6:15 p.m.  If you have any questions please call Andrea at 681-4907 or Hillary at 780-4408.

DISH DATE - Jesus did some of his best work at dinner and so we will gather to celebrate, get to know each other and to eat.  Your group can go out, stay in, pot luck, or join the Lenten Soup Suppers - your choice.  Our goal is to share a little of our story with each other. Sign up on the kiosk for the March and April meals.
