Hillside Community
Hillside Community is Advent's vibrant mission in the growing southwestern region of the Kansas City metropolitan area. In this mission we focus on building relationship - first relationship with God, then with each other, then with God's world.
Our full name is Hillside Community: An Inviting Lutheran Fellowship. We're intentional about each of those three main words after the colon:
Inviting - We believe that the amazing good news of God's love as revealed in and by Jesus Christ is too good to keep under wraps, and inviting others into that message is one of the ways we live out our relationship with God's world.
Lutheran - In the midst of a culture that tells us that we are what we achieve, we live out the basic Lutheran belief that we are what God has made us through Jesus Christ: beloved children of God whose lives are to be a constant response to God's never-ending love for us.
Fellowship - Although we celebrate two sacraments (Baptism and Holy Communion) we recognize that the love and grace of Christ are also revealed powerfully in the community of other believers. In our fast-paced world it seems that we have numerous acquaintances but few meaningful friendships; at Hillside Community we offer a solid foundation for true fellowship through a shared faith in something and someone greater than ourselves.
We meet every Tuesday night, 6-8 p.m., at the Day Brook Learning Center in Spring Hill, Kansas. We begin with dinner, then move into our focus for the evening. Beginning Sept. 22 we will offer the Alpha program, a basic introduction to the Christian tradition. But the Alpha course isn't just for newcomers; it's also proven to be valuable to people who have been intentional Christians all their lives. Some of our members have been through the Alpha course nine times in various places, and they find that the program still offers sustaining food for their souls.
At Hillside we don't have life all figured out, but coming up with the right answers isn't the goal; living faithfully, with Christ at the center, is what we strive to do. So if you think there must be more to life than the daily grind (and guess who gets ground up in that!), or if you're just curious about Christianity, come and check us out. Dinner's on us, and you'll find a bunch of folks who will welcome you with genuine hospitality.
