Confirmation

WELCOME TO CONFIRMATION!

We are so excited to journey with your son or daughter as they begin to explore their faith rooted in the waters of baptism. The goal of confirmation is for students to build relationships with each other and god as they dig deeper into the bible, catechism, and their own beliefs.

This is how a regular Wednesday night session, called a LEARN night, unfolds:

Each Confirmand belongs to a Small Group of either all boys or all girls of their own age, with Adult Guides and one or two Junior Guides (High School volunteers.)  We gather in the Fellowship Hall each Wednesday by 6:30 p.m. for Opening.

The Opening begins with music and an introduction to the evening’s theme. This is also our announcement time, and a few of our Junior Guides act as “M.C.s” during this Opening.  We then move into the LEARN Presentation time, which is taught by one of the staff – Pastor Susan, Pastor Roger, our seminary intern, or Youth and Family staff.  We always begin with prayer and often have a skit or game to help us with the theme for the night.  When the LEARN presentation is complete, we go to our separate meeting places for our Small Group Time lead by an Adult Guide.  Before the night is over, we return to the large group gathering for our closing to reinforce the night’s LEARN theme, and to center us on God for the rest of the week.

In our Guide Group we share our weekly “highs” and “lows” and pray together.  We then discuss the night’s LEARN theme using prepared materials (worksheets, projects, etc..). At the conclusion of our time together, we bless each other into the rest of the week.

We hope you enjoy your Confirmation experience!  There’s a lot to learn and to experience, and we always have a blast doing it together.  Parents, we would love for you to get involved in confirmation, from being an Adult Guide to participating 6th-8th Development Team (see John Holt) or simply helping out with transportation when we need to get somewhere, providing soup, chili or your “assigned food item” during Advent and Lent.

Our first official gathering will be for the Faith Stepping Stone #5 Blessing in Church for all those who are “Stepping into Confirmation.”
